It’s safe to say, Mancunian art-rockers Everything Everything love playing in Nottingham. In fact, since the start of 2024 alone, the band had already played our city four times, including earlier this year with The Wombats at Motorpoint Arena. However, this fifth visit to Nottingham in under two years was for a very special occasion – a 10th Anniversary celebration of their beloved third album Get To Heaven. We went along to join the party at Rock City on a cold, wet Monday night…
Kicking things off tonight are Brighton-based indie quartet Lime Garden, who sound great during their support slot. Armed with a bright orange drum kit, the young band’s set pulls mainly from their 2024 debut One More Thing, with the crowd responding to the catchy hooks, danceable synths and fierce garage rock energy. There are a few technical issues, however, the band losing power momentarily during a song about dating app Hinge. They recover well, though, with single Love Song a particular highlight. Soon enough the band wrap up their short set, with frontwoman Chloe Howard asking for anyone with extensive knowledge of Nottingham’s network of caves to visit her at the merch desk afterwards.
During the changeover break, there seem to be further technical issues on stage as the production team repeatedly test and sound check some of the instruments. Even with Everything Everything’s start time pushed back 15 minutes from what was originally advertised online, the band arrive a further 10 minutes later than scheduled.
It’s hard to stay mad at them, though, as they take to the stage in their matching orange jumpsuits, frontman Jonathan Higgs also sporting a long grey tunic over the top. The band sound immaculate as ever as they play through, in Higgs’ words, “every last drop and every last moment” of Get To Heaven. From rarely performed album cuts including Fortune 500 and Warm Healer, to cult-favourite bonus tracks Hapsburg Lipp, President Heartbeat and Yuppie Supper, it’s fascinating to see a band with such a deep discography of great music focus on this single snapshot in time.
The crowd soak up every single aspect of the set, too, with singles Regret, Spring / Sun / Winter / Dread and Distant Past understandably getting the loudest reactions of the night, with the Rock City choir out in full force. It’s worth mentioning just how good the production is tonight, the band lit up in bright neon colours one moment, to spotlights casting them into striking silhouettes against a flash of strobes the next. It’s truly mesmerising to watch and before you know it, the band head off momentarily, only to return for a thunderous encore of No Reptiles and the only non-Get To Heaven cut of the night, Cold Reactor.
While they continue to frequently perform in Nottingham, Everything Everything always deliver a unique performance, one that is as impressive and tightly produced as it is spellbinding. And while the setlist tonight may have lacked some of their biggest tracks, experiencing the Get To Heaven time capsule for one night only indeed felt like a trip into paradise.
Everything Everything performed at Rock City on 1st December 2025.
