From stadiums to stages: Here's what's on in Nottingham this week, 26 January - 1 February

Sunday 25 January 2026
reading time: min, words

There are some big, once in a blue moon events this week in Notts, from live jazz and protest comedy to football and theatre.

1 (2)

Notts County v Swindon Town
When: Tue 27 January
Where: Meadow Lane Stadium
How much: £23-27

It’s been a positive season so far for the world’s oldest football league club. At the time of writing, they’re in the top five of League Two and so are their opponents Swindon Town. Therefore this game, between The Magpies and The Robins, promises to be a proper top of the table clash and the kind of event that could help define the season. Both teams also boast some of the division's most prolific scorers in Adrian Drinan (Swindon) and Matt Dennis and Alassana Jatta, so hopefully there will be goals! I had a wheelbarrow…!

Berenice

When: Wed 28 January
Where: The Chapel at The Angel Microbrewery
How much: £11

London-based, Italian artist Berenice is getting lots of traction with her cinematic pop-rock sound, which has earned her a shout-out from Rolling Stone. Last year, she released her debut EP Courgetti Western, which is just as it sounds: a reimagining of spaghetti westerns for heroine-type characters. She's been playing shows ever since, and has an upcoming one lined up at Hockley hub, The Chapel. There's no telling when she'll suddenly skyrocket in popularity, so there's no time like the present to see her.

2 (1)

The James Taylor Quartet

When: Thu 29 January
Where: Peggy Skylight
How much: £22 (standing), £32 (seated)

If you’re yet to experience authentic, live jazz, but would like to, then there’ll be a chance to experience the cream of the crop this month. Peggy’s Skylight are hosting The James Taylor Quartet: a celebrated acid-jazz and funk act known for their energetic live skills centred around the organ-playing of the eponymous James Taylor. Chances to see artists of his calibre don’t come around every day, considering his prolific catalogue spanning film music, session playing, and solo material.

3 (2)

Hamlet

When: Thu 29 January
Where: Savoy Cinema
How much: From £13.90 (concessions: from £11.40)

National Theatre Live presents a brand new production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet starring Olivier award-winning actor Hiran Abeysekera, who also starred in the National Theatre’s 2023 adaptation of Life of Pi.  Described as “stylish” and “darkly funny”, this production is guaranteed to be an exciting chapter in the consistently creative story of the National Theatre. Also, to top it all off, you’ll be able to enjoy it in the comfort of the Savoy Cinema’s art deco surroundings, adding an extra dose of stylishness.

4 (1)

Grace Petrie, This Is No Time To Panic!

When: Fri 30 January
Where: Canalhouse
How much: £19.80 (£17.80 concessions)

Gracie Petrie is one of the country's most renowned, musically talented comedians, and she's returning to perform at Canalhouse this week. Her show This Is No Time To Panic! has received lots of acclaim - it's  a blend of her extensive experience performing folk protest songs, and stand-up relating to the dire state of the world we find ourselves in. Canalhouse is also one of the unofficial homes of Notts comedy, and if you haven't seen such a show there yet, it could be a great time to treat yourself.
