The world’s biggest chicken wing festival lands in Nottingham for the first time ever at the new Out Nottingham venue. We have two pairs of tickets to give away to our clucky readers...
Wing Fest, the ultimate chicken wing showdown, will make its highly anticipated Nottingham debut this May, serving up a weekend of the UK’s best chicken wings, music and entertainment.
The event is taking place from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 May at Out Nottingham, a newly redeveloped industrial site transformed into a seriously slick multi-use events space and located at 35 Jesse Boot Avenue, NG7 2RU.
Championing independent food traders from across the UK, Nottingham Wing Fest will see vendors serve up over 60,000 chicken wings as they compete for a series of coveted awards, including Best Buffalo Wing, Best BBQ Wing and Best Wild Wing. Each trader will showcase their own unique flavours and techniques, with festival-goers invited to vote for their favourites and help decide who earns a place in the prestigious Hall of Flame.
The trader line-up features some of the UK’s most exciting names in the chicken scene, including Nottingham’s very own Mollis from Michelin-starred chef Alex Bond, Derby favourites BOA, Manchester stalwarts Hello Oriental, and London favourites Peck Peck and Jus’ Winging It -the latter boasting a whopping twenty awards to date - alongside many more.
The entertainment line-up delivers plenty of heat, featuring a series of epic eating competitions and flame-fuelled theatrics from some of the best in the business. This year promises even more drama, with the return of the infamous Lava Wing Challenge - the UK’s hottest wing challenge, renowned for the carnage it leaves in its wake.
For true wing aficionados, the festival’s legendary Eating Competition will once again take centre stage, as contestants go head-to-head to devour as many wings as possible in the fastest time. At the heart of the festival ethos is the story of wing enthusiast and founder, Richard Thacker, who is from a family of chicken farmers, and started off as a chicken wing street-food trader. He created Wing Fest twelve years ago to champion independent food businesses and up-and-coming brands, and their love of chicken. Wing Fest now showcases a curated selection of street food traders, restaurants, BBQ teams and pop-ups from around the country at each festival.
