Vicky Pamo Simples tells us what it’s like to be a supervisor at multi-purpose food and drink hub, the buzzing Beeston Social…

Tell us something interesting about your bar…
We have a large rolling shutter installed in the front of the venue that we open during the summertime, which is a nod to the old fire station that used to stand on the site years ago!

What’s the best thing about your job?
Definitely the community in-and-around Beeston – we have so many wonderful people who I’ve had the pleasure of serving over the years, and who regularly come in for a drink and a chat no matter how awful the weather.

What’s the worst?
Still not being able to beat the staff at a game of pool since we’ve had the tables in.

What’s your best selling drink?
During the weekdays I’m usually pulling pints, but as it gets closer to the weekend we have a lot of cocktails flying off the shelves – people love having the Twister just for the Twister lolly that comes on top.

What’s your most expensive drink?
The Perrier-Jouet Gran Brut – I once sold a few bottles to a group of friends on a Saturday night who were meant to be having ‘a quiet night in’.

Describe your bar in three words.
Eccentric, lively and an all-rounder.

What’s your personal favourite tipple?
I love a cheeky glass of sweet rosé after a long shift.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve had drinking in your place?
Larry Lloyd and John McGovern – two ex Forest players who pop in every now and then!

What’s the best thing a customer has ever said to you?
A couple who had just moved to Beeston came in for the first time and told me that they were so happy that they’d found their new local bar only a few minutes away from their new home.

How would you persuade someone who has never visited before to come in?
We’ve always got something for you – be it a warm coffee on a quiet morning, a hearty Sunday roast, a bit of live music or playing against your friends in the arcade on a weekend club night.

Head to the Beeston Social at 2 Station Rd, NG9 2WJ.
